neck liftIf the eyes are the first area people begin to show their age, the neck is arguably the second. Vertical banding, horizontal creases, fatty jowls, and “turkey-wattle” all work together to make people look older than their actual age. Getting a neck lift in Sydney may eliminate these unsightly aging symptoms, and leave you looking and feeling much younger.

A neck lift or cervicoplasty is a procedure that tightens the skin and muscles underneath, lifting the neck and improving and sharpening the jawline. People experiencing sagging and wrinkling of the neck and loss of separation between the neck and chin or jaw may benefit from this procedure.

Pre-operative Considerations

The best candidates for a cervicoplasty are people in generally good health. As such, the cosmetic surgeon will order you to undergo laboratory tests first to confirm your health status.

Prior to the surgery, the surgeon will talk to you about the medications you’re taking or may need to take. They may require you to adjust, cease or begin taking certain medications in the week or two prior to your surgery. During said period, they may caution you about taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs and herbal supplements, as these substances may increase bleeding.

Post-operative Care

After the surgery, the surgeon will place a pressure dressing that will go around your head and underneath your chin. They may remove the dressing after a few days, but the sutures may remain in place for seven to ten days more.

The area operated on may feel tight and sore as the anaesthesia wears off, and may show more swelling and bruising over the next three days after the surgery.

Recovery and Downtime

Most patients may return to non-strenuous work after five to ten days. For the first few weeks after the surgery, however, avoid bending over, lifting heavy objects and turning your head from side to side. Surgeons also recommend sleeping with your head elevated for one or two weeks.

The guidelines for pre-operative considerations, post-operative care and recovery and downtime may vary based on the patient’s personal health status, surgical techniques used and other factors. With that said, make sure to consult the surgeon about the issues that may affect the surgery before undergoing the procedure.
